A little egret (Egretta garzetta) is resting on an abandoned rotting boat at the edge of a mangrove.
Mangroves provide essential habitat for thousands of species. They also stabilize shorelines, preventing erosion and protecting the land, while keeping the water clean from pollutants.
Mangrove forests are able to store up to four times more carbon than other tropical forests.
