Breathe, Mixed Media Sculpture on Gas Mask, 2020

2020 is (finally) over and I think we all can agree that it was a challenging year.
I’m not too optimistic for the future to be perfectly honest, but let’s not dwell on what hasn’t happened yet.

I picked “Breathe” as a representation of 2020, as it feels the most fitting. We’ve all had to wear masks this year, and I know we will still have to in 2021 and probably in the coming years.
”Breathe” was originally meant to be about pollution caused by human activities, but I finished it when the pandemic took over the world so it got another layer of meaning.

A Recap of 2020 Art

This year, I had planned out art residencies to get my creative juices flowing. Thus, I was on a residency in London for a full 6 weeks early this year, before the pandemic forced me to go back home. The residency was originally of 8 weeks, but I was just really glad I was able to make that residency at all. Those 6 weeks were the happiest I’ve been in a long time and albeit exhausting, I was incredibly inspired during that time.

I had another art residency planned out for New-York during summer, but of course, it had to be canceled.
Such is life sometimes.

Here a recap of the artworks I finished in 2020.

It ended up being a rather productive year. I especially enjoyed working on plastic bottles, though many of you really loved my new found book series. Watercolor is also a medium that I love more and more and that really taught me to become a better artist overall. I’ve learned so much about mixing colors and pigments this year. I want to integrate paper and watercolor in my sculptures a lot more in the future.

A lot of these have sold, but some are still available.
Some are also in galleries around the world. So you can go see them on appointment.
My shop is currently off, because I’m still on holiday. Sort-of. Let’s just say I don’t want to deal with packaging and shipping out orders, but I do art almost every day, mostly studies right now.

That being said, I wish you all a very average 2021, without any kinds of complications.
I hope you and your loved ones stay healthy, that’s always the most important.

Thank you for reading!
xx
