CHI VA PIANO, 2024

mixed media sculpture on reclaimed clock
2024
15 x 8 x 11 cm

created for my solo show “Luscious Legacy” at ArchEnemy Gallery

I found this clock made of plastic at a local flea market.
It went through a few color schemes before I decided to paint it in metallic rainbow stripes.
The whole clock became a snail, and I added a few tiny snails to explore the clock/shell.
”Chi Va Piano” is an Italian saying that translates into “who goes slowly, goes sane/healthy, goes far”. In essence, taking your time to live is better for your health and stamina, there is no need to rush everything constantly. I think that’s especially relevant in a society where we’re pushed to over-consume, which in turn pushes us to always work more and harder to make ends meet, putting a lot of people into crippling debt.
