Tea Connections, A Collection of 9 postcard sized Artworks, Watercolor and Colored Pencils on Paper, 2021

A few months ago, I was contacted by the gallery Sally Centigrade in Lakewood to participate in a group show.
The show “Wish You Were Here” is a collection of postcard sized artworks, to remind of postcards and connections we can have with people whom are not near us and that we can’t see in these pandemic times.

I agreed readily, thinking it would be the perfect show to play around with smaller sized artworks.

Many of my friends live a little further away, so I’m used to not seeing them often. Of course, now, I see them even less. But whenever we would meet, we would share a cup of tea. I started enjoying tea because of travels to Asia a few years ago and since then have developed a linking and keen interest in the kong fu cha approach of tea serving.
You basically use a tiny teapot and serve one cup at a time.

For this artwork I wanted to join all my closest female friends through tea and a mycelium grid.
I asked each of them which was their favorite color and tea pot or cup. They all send me pictures and I used three of my own teapots for my own and two for the gallery.

I made a bigger painting, so I was sure the mycelium would run through everything and connect all teapots together. So Even if these small paintings are apart, they are still linked together.

The central teapot is for myself, I chose black as it is touched by all colors.

Each of the other teapots will be send to my friends.
I still need to mount them on wood like I did for the gallery.

POSTCARDS

I really like the idea to send a postcard of this collection of nine to your friends, so you are virtually and visually linked with these. So I scanned all of them and put them in my Redbubble shop.

You can find all prints of them here.

The two mounted original paintings can be purchased directly from Sally Centrigrade.
Their show begins on May 7th 2021.
