Paper and Book Sculptures

Pastel Embrace, mixed media on reclaimed book, 2022

“Pastel Embrace” for the Lucid show at Beinart (Melbourne)
“Purple Slash” for the 10 years anniversary of ArchEnemy Arts (Philadelphia)
“I Lichen You A Lot” for “Small Works” at Beinart (Melbourne)

Hello everyone!

I have been busy working on a few artworks for various group shows in galleries around the world.
Today I’m showing you the three books that will be shown.

I worked a lot with watercolor and paper on these and I’m pretty happy with how they all turned out, you can glimpse part of the process of these over on my YouTube channel in a recent art studio vlog I did.

I am very much exploring paper as a medium in my sculptural work as I’ve been trying to reduce the amount of plastic based art materials I use. It’s difficult to go plastic free in sculptures as you always use glue, acrylic paints of varnishes at some point. So it’s more a question of reducing than avoiding plastic completely.
I also really enjoy using watercolor and paper so that’s a real bonus!

The three books I got from a friend specifically for me to make sculptures (she was getting rid of old books).
The pastel one is a romance manga with colored pages, this one took me the longest, as working in pastels isn’t a speciality of mine and I wasn’t quite sure where I was headed with that big one at first.

I went a little butterfly crazy on these and also created a tutorial on how I made them, so if you’re curious or would like to make your own butterflies, you can check the class out on Skillshare.

Two paintings and four sculptures will also be shown in April at the Comoedia gallery in Brest, France.

One of the paintings is the huge “Modern Music”, which was quite stressful to transport from Vannes to Brest by car. But we managed just fine. It’s been professionally framed with the fancy no glare museum quality glass that costs an arm, a leg and probably a heart combined ^^’

If you are interested in any of these artworks, please get in touch with the galleries directly!
